Cedars Sessions Recap 7•19•25
The Cedars Open Studios community gathered for a fresh cup of creativity at Full City Rooster—Dallas’s beloved micro-roastery recently featured on Good Morning America “What Fills Your Cup”—for a special Cedars Sessions event spotlighting two powerful artistic voices: Girard Polite and Walter Johnson Jr.
Hosted by Cedars open Studios Artists Outreach Coordinator Marion Marshall, the event began with an intimate conversation with Full City Rooster’s owner Michael Wyatt. Known for his meticulous approach to coffee and his dedication to curating both beans and visual art, Michael shared stories of how his journey in coffee roasting organically evolved into supporting the local arts scene. His passion for building community—one pour-over at a time—set the perfect tone for the creative dialogue to follow.
Marion then led an inspiring artist talk with Girard Polite and Walter Johnson Jr., diving deep into their personal artistic evolutions, the themes that drive their work, and what it means to be an artist in today’s world. The conversation was candid and full of insight, touching on everything from cultural heritage to experimentation and growth through adversity.
Attendees sipped on thoughtfully brewed cups of coffee while surrounded by the ambient hum of artistic exchange. It was a reminder of what makes the Cedars so special: its people, its passion, and the spaces—like Full City Rooster—that bring it all together.
We’re grateful to everyone who joined us for this Cedars Session and especially to Girard, Walter, and Michael for sharing their time and stories.
Stay tuned for our next Cedars Session, and as always—Make Art • See Art • Support Art.
Don’t worry about sounding professional. Sound like you. There are over 1.5 billion websites out there, but your story is what’s going to separate this one from the rest. If you read the words back and don’t hear your own voice in your head, that’s a good sign you still have more work to do.
Be clear, be confident and don’t overthink it. The beauty of your story is that it’s going to continue to evolve and your site can evolve with it. Your goal should be to make it feel right for right now. Later will take care of itself. It always does.
