Ralph Cooper

My work reflects my life as an army brat of the greater South, a culmination of the landscapes and passing generations. I have always been attracted to the narrative of the physical image molded by time — texture, rusting, bleaching, aging. The pieces I create often take me years, starting with my first point of view and adding functional (and a few latent-dysfunctional) layers to the work until I can feel it's complete. As the resident artist at the Autonomous Society, I hope to speak to the collective Southern experience through lithography, landscape, and myriad mixed media.
