Lori Morrell Whitaker
As a professional artist, I call on memories and experiences to evoke mood and narrative in my artwork. Artistic inspiration comes from childhood memories and the desire to capture sacred moments. I enjoy creating universal human experiences using mixed media, oil painting, and figurative drawing.
In my work I explore the delight of discovery and its relationship to identity.
I hire professional models to pose for figure drawing as well as portrait studies. It's important to me to keep my drawing skills up by working from direct observation. My studio is filled with figure studies, portraits, mixed media and oil paintings, as well as pastel studies. I love nature so many of my pieces have found objects installed into the work in tiny boxes. I am not locked into one media and sometimes I like to put my figures into surreal landscapes. I like using color to express emotion and find it exciting to do large drawings and paintings on canvas as well as medium sized oil paintings on panel frames.
