Guillermo Rios

Studio Guillermo Ríos (SGR) explores identity, memory, and cultural duality through painting and wearable art. Rooted in Guillermo Ríos’ experience growing up between Jalisco, Mexico, and Texas, the work reflects the intersection of heritage, personal history, and contemporary life.

SGR is recognized for transforming denim and other garments into one-of-one works of art. Denim carries a personal connection to Ríos’ upbringing, recalling the clothing worn by his father and grandfather while working the agricultural fields of Jalisco. By using clothing as a canvas, the artwork moves beyond traditional gallery walls and becomes art in motion.

Recurring faces represent the many identities we inherit, inhabit, and become, while expressive lines trace journeys, memories, and connections. Circles and “Nexus Dots” symbolize energy, encounters, and the moments where different paths intersect.

Through the contrast of durable textiles and expressive painted figures, SGR examines the dualities of Mexican and American identity, past and present, strength and vulnerability—creating work that carries memory while continuing to evolve.
