Through my work, I examine the nature of belonging within India’s traditional caste system and the practices of inheritance, viewed through the lens of Eastern narratives, astrology, and fate. The paintings emerge from a visceral response to the morally complex realities of life: birth, death, rebirth, and the exploration of the dichotomy between free will and predestination.

This series confronts the ongoing cultural and physical boundaries established by one’s place, date, and time of birth. The paintings often depict abstract landscapes, imbued with ancient Eastern symbolic and calligraphic elements, each narrating a story of entwined identities and traditions. They unveil various contexts, such as rituals performed near water bodies in India. The incorporation of asemic writing and cryptic symbols within these paintings aims to articulate the unspoken, representing the suppressed desire to connect across the continuum of time.

By utilizing materials such as ink, natural pigments, and gouache in these 2D works, I navigate the cycles of creation, destruction, and recreation. My art invites viewers to reflect on their interconnectedness with our collective heritage, critically examining caste and inheritance disparities, predetermined birth, blurred identity, and the essence of belonging.
